Inhale. Exhale.
The wisdom you seek? It's closer than that.
It's closer than your breath. It's there in your bones, your belly, the soles of your feet. We are meant to be in conversation with the knowing in our bodies, but the language between us is often lost. How do we learn to hear the opinions of our back, the desires of our hands? What is that melody your heart is playing? You used to know how to sing along.
We draw closer to our instinctive wisdom by building choice and trust in the body through the basics of mindful movement. We do what dancers do- develop our instrument, shift our weight, make friends with space and find the joy in being embodied. We awaken to ourselves where we are in ability and consciousness and learn to trust what our bodies know. We awaken through movement.
Awakened Movement is based on the principles of dance and is designed to cultivate a conscious, loving relationship with the body while developing physical strength, agility and deep presence. Classes begin on a yoga mat (or chair) and gradually evolve to standing movement throughout the room. Classes are open level. All are welcome.
I was lucky enough to begin my teaching odyssey when I was thirteen. In the almost three decades since then, I have been a professional dancer, choreographer and dance educator working with movers of all ages and abilities locally, nationally and abroad. A.M. offerings are the culmination of years of technical studies, personal healing and learning from my students. From these avenues of exploration and engagement I've found that when the architecture of the body aligns with our awareness- magic happens! Not only can you stay physically well from informed moving, but you can tune into your body's wisdom. My students and I have found this way of relating to our bodies to be a fun loving adventure that helps us navigate our inner and outer lives. |
Gabrielle has given me the tools and the vocabulary to express myself through movement in a deeply satisfying capacity." -Patrick M
Gabrielle grew up in the Nashville area where she trained at the Nashville School of Ballet. After studying at the Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music, she lived and worked as a professional dancer in the city of Chicago where she trained in the Graham and Horton techniques of modern dance. In Nashville Gabrielle has worked with such organizations as Act Like A Grrrl, Actor's Bridge,Theater Bug, Global Education Center, Metro Nashville Schools, CMT, Third Man Records and Bonnaroo. One of her proudest accomplishments was co-founding Nashville's premier burlesque finishing school, Delinquent Debutantes.
Gabrielle is an amazing body movement instructor. She brings out the dancer in you...she creates a comfortable environment for her students to learn how to find the rhythm inside themselves. Working with Gabrielle since 2013 has taught me so much about myself as a somatic creature. I highly recommend the opportunity to train with this beautiful creature." -Laura C
